As owners of cars, what you are mostly concerned about is how you will keep your car healthy. While working on doing so, you come across various tips and tricks on the internet which ask you to do different things. Most of the things are not true to be followed.
Here are a few to be mentioned.
1. According to some websites and some mechanics, the transmission fluid should be changed frequently as for every 50,000 miles. But most vehicles now use long-life transmission fluid that actually lasts for 100,000 miles.
2. Some sources say that using air conditioner is better for fuel economy but it is not true as fuel economy can be reduced on turning on AC in the car as it takes fuel for the AC to function and opening the windows also help to keep the driver alert.
3. Using premium oil is better for engines is what some reports say but this is not actually true .It may or may not be necessary for all vehicles to run on premium oils though some vehicles do need premium fuel to run. You should go through the owner’s manual specified for the car.
4. Some drivers believe that driving a dirty car will help the car to keep up within the fuel economy but this does not actually work. This is so because dirt on the car will decrease the fuel economy by 10 % according to Myth Busters.
5. As gasoline expands with heat, some people believe that filling the car in the morning will help the fuel to expand throughout the day but as the gasoline is stored underground so it stays cool and it does not matter when you refill the vehicle ,it will give the same performance.
These were the few myths about maintenance which you now know are false. Hope this would help you with your maintenance job.
