Staying in an earthquake prone area always keeps your life at risk . Though many times the earthquakes are small but when bigger ones hit, it causes a great hazard to population .
Now, if you are driving and you suddenly get hit by any earthquakes , you will only be left with one option that is to pray , if you are not having any safety measures.
According to the USGS reports, Alaska and California are the areas stroked by earthquakes the most.
Following some tips stated below can help you to tackle situations like this ,both before ,during and after the earthquake.
1. According to ‘Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people living in earthquake prone areas should always carry an earthquake road kit which should contain first-aid kit, canned food, bottled water, flashlights, new batteries, fire extinguishers, blankets, local maps.
2. According to ‘American Red Cross’ ,if you are driving and suddenly get hit by an earthquake, what you should do is –
• Slow down and wait to safely pull over to the side of the road.
• Don’t get off the car and fasten seat belts until the earthquake is over.
• Avoid parking below power lines, near overpasses and other hazardous places.
3. Driving after an earthquake strike needs you to be more cautious as ,sometimes, the aftershocks can be dangerous and cause harm too. If the earthquake causes power cuts, you should drive carefully on road and know the traffic rules of your area ,so that even in absence of traffic lights , the traffic goes smoothly.
Taking precautions beforehand and following the safety measures can somewhat help you to stay safe and protect yourself even in case of natural calamities.
