If you have ever faced a situation where you are driving and your brakes go out then you know how haphazard a situation it is and hope you overcame it safely. If you have never been in one, then hope that you never have to face one but keeping yourself aware and knowing what to do if you unfortunately face one is of utmost importance. As knowing these tips can help you to stop as safe as possible.
The tips are as follows –
- As soon as one sees that the brakes of the car he is riding has gone out ,he starts panicking. This is the thing what you should never do because it can worsen things up and get you into more trouble. Keep your mind calm and focus your mind on getting your car safely off the road.
- Most of the vehicles have a dual braking system which independently control the front and rear brakes. For your car to loose the total control over the brakes, both the brakes would have to be damaged . So check if at least half of the system is working so that you can control the situation to some extent .
- Slow your car down by shifting it into a lower gear this way you would get some time and it would also be safer when you are getting it off the road. You should also try to engage the emergency brakes and this would in most of the cases work because the emergency braking system is separate from the main system.
- Don’t turn off the car until you have stopped safely and completely. Turning the ignition off will typically shut down the power steering which will make it difficult to turn the vehicle and lock it in place.
- As your car is safe and off the road ,signal for help by raising your hood and keeping the hazard lights on. Stay out from oncoming traffic and call for roadside assistance.
