As a parent, your child’s safety and security matters to you the most. And as you drive around taking the child with you, what you should be most concerned of is if you are taking proper care of the safety measures for keeping the child safe.
Though different states of different countries have different set of rules on road safety, there are some basic measures which you can take to keep your child safe being in any part of the world.
The best thing you can do is giving different types of restraints to your child keeping in note their age, height and weight to keep them safe.
According to Allstates.com, there are mainly four types of restraints including adult seat belts to check the safety. But, depending on the age and growth of your child, it can be confusing to decide what would best suit your child and when.
To solve this problem of yours, here are descriptions of different types of restraints and when to use them. This would help you to decide when it would be the time to buy what seat for the child.
1. Rear –Facing Seats – These are the types of seat that face the back window. A child aging at least one year or so and weighing at most 20 pounds is best suited for this kind of seats. But before installation, you must take in note the weight limit mandated by the manufacturer of the car seat.
2. Forward-Facing Seats -You would come to know when it is time for you to install this next category of seats as soon as you see that your child has outgrown the previous kind of seats. The guidelines provided by the manufacturer should obviously be taken in note but in general, a child at least 4 years of age and weighing around 40 pounds is well suited.
3. Booster Seats – As your child grows older and is now about 3’ – 4’ and is weighing almost around 60 pounds, it is time for you to install a booster seat in the car for your child. Children ageing 8-12yrs are best suited. You should continue putting your child in the booster seat until or unless he has grown enough to fit an adult seat belt.
4. Seat Belts – As soon as the child is around 4’9”, and is of 80 pounds, they become big enough to fit an adult seat belt. Just make sure that the seatbelt is fitting him properly and is across the chest, otherwise the seat belt won’t do the work it is meant to do. Make sure that the belt is in comfortable position with your child.
