Seeing your youngsters grow and slowly getting on their feet is truly overwhelming but the day they gets their driving license is both scary and exciting. Yes you would be free from the duties of dropping them to school, drop them on outings with friends, etc , but on the other hand , you will always have the fear running inside you that your kid is out on the road alone without your guidance.
In such a situation , what you can do is keep in mind few measures or tips before you buy your youngster .
1. SAFETY – Pick the models with top safety features. Studies say that the crash rate for 16-19 yrs olds is almost 3 times higher than for drivers of all ages .Though the risks of crash decreases as the individual gets experience. So you should look for features like side curtain air bags, electronic stability control, blind spot monitoring, etc.
2.SIZE – For new drivers, bigger and heavier vehicles are recommended because they mostly protect the driver in crashes .But those vehicles can be expensive and their maintenance cost can be high. On the other hands, smaller cars are affordable but do not give much protection during crashes. Compact or midsized cars fall in the middle for both size , price and safety and are hence a gain to buy.
3. Affordability – Determining how much you can afford to spend on the car you give to your young one is a must. First decide if you want a new car or an used car would be enough. If you are buying the car with your money or taking a car loan. If taking loan, whether you or your kid will be able to pay off the loan or not . If your kid will manage to pay for its fuel costs, insurance, monthly payments or not. If a new car is necessary or you have a spare car available which your kid can take over considering the ongoing car ownership cost.
Irrespective of what vehicle you choose ,a reliable car with a responsible one driving it makes the car safest while the kid is on road and in turn keep you worry free .
