Buying a used car can be a great decision for people who do not care about showing and are only concerned about getting on road without spending too much. It can also be of great use to people who are new to driving and want to set their hands before buying their new car.

But what to look for in a used car while buying it to stay in gain or simply not get cheated can be a matter of concern.

1. Details of the vehicle – Gather as much information as you can about the car you are going to buy and take in not of its documents and if they are up to date. These documents roughly include Vehicle Identification Number(VIN),Insurance Paper, Road Tax, R.T.O History, etc. If the car has been in any accident ,if there are any recalls on the model ,etc.
2. Check the car’s body –Give a close look at the car frame. Check for rust, dent or Paint patches. If there are over painted patches which does not match the surrounding colors , it indicates that those areas were repaired and re – painted . Check if the body panels are even, unevenness in panels may indicate that the vehicle had been in accidents and had no proper fixation. Open and close the doors and hood to see how smoothly they move. Check the interior by sitting in the seats and looking for unusual wear and tear. Check the floor for leaks or water damage.
3. Look under the bonnet – Engine is one of the major concerns while buying a used car. Inspect visually the engine for fluid leaks, corrosions, cracked hoses and belts. Check the oil and dipsticks for discolorations. Oil should be light brown and transmission fluid should be pink or red.
4. Tire Condition – According to Birchwood, The tire should be evenly worn and all four should match. Unevenness indicates poor alignment. Poor alignment will cause the car to pull left or right while driving.
5. Mileage – Mileage plays an important role in a car specification. A car with high mileage is what people desire for. To know the car’s mileage ,divide the number on the odometer by the vehicle’s age.
6. Take a Test Drive – Taking a test drive is most important part of buying a used car. Take the car on different roads and drive it on different speeds to check the braking , Acceleration, Suspension etc.
7. Don’t rush and do some research – Don’t hurry while buying the car .If you have found the car of your choice then take some time and negotiate with the price to get the best deal. Do some research and take in note that the car fits your budget.
